mwc_4210.nfo:
Coherent Version 4.2.10
copyleft The Mark Williams Company - 1994
IIRC, this was the last release of the complete package delivered by the
Mark Williams Company before it was sold in 1995. The put some patch
es/updates
up on their bbs before they were sold, then everything disapeared shortly
thereafter. The current owner still to this day gets very bent about mwc
being made available which is surprising since he has done nothing with it
other than maybe loose his own copies.
A unix "like" OS, meant to be an inexpensive introduction to u
nix. It was
inexpensive only in that it was cheaper than SCO's product.
I erronously posted that this won't run on IDE hard drives. Sorry folks, Thi
s
version WILL. I don't know when they added that.
12 1440k copyqm images, as follows:
c4210d01-04
Base Install - Start install from disk 1
use this serial: 532319371
c4210d04-08
gnu C++
c4210d09 & 10
GhostScript
c4210d11 & 12
x11r5
IIRC, requires a 386 class machine. There was a 286 version, but it may or may n
ot
be a part of this package. I don't remember and can't put my hands on th
e books
at this moment.
It will boot from a scsi hard drive <225mb
It will NOT boot from a scsi hard drive >1gb
I don't know where the line is actually drawn, but concidering the period
I would guess either 338mb or 528mb.
Also, at the time of release, 16mb of ram was a lot of memory, and this
OS will not see any memory installed above 128mb. Not that you would need
to. :-)
Not for the weak at knees.
And yes, I have all the updates/patches from the MWC BBS somewhere and will
post them when found for those interested.
To restore the diskette set, I have included copyqm v3.24 and a batch file
to automate the process. UnRaR the package to your hard drive and run
makedisk.bat. Label the diskettes in order as outlined above.
I chose to us CopyQM because in the days of DOS, it was king of the hill
for copying non-standard disk formats. It could make good working copies
of Strike Eagle II, and it was common knowledge around my office that the
unlabeleed diskette under my keyboard was a key disk for F19 Stealth
Fighter. :-)
Enjoy.
